Round jubilee: 20 years of staging the play 'The Siege of Sinj 1715.'
This year marks an important, round anniversary: 20 years of staging a spectacle that has surpassed theatre to become part of the identity of Sinj and the Cetina region. Twenty years of dedication from actors, extras, horsemen, costume designers, technicians, and all those who, in an intense, dignified, and authentic manner, bring us back each year to 1715.
For two decades, the same story is revived beneath Sinj’s walls: a story of resistance, faith, and the courage of a people who, under the gentle gaze of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj, refused to kneel before the conqueror. The play “Siege of Sinj, 1715” is not merely a theatrical staging of history. It is a living memory – the crack of a flintlock echoing through the centuries, the unity of a handful of defenders, the hands clasped in prayer before the image of the Heavenly Mother, and the vow of a town that remained unconquered.
The jubilee will also see the premiere of a promotional documentary by Ante Gugić, which gives a peek into the background of this unique spectacle: the emotion of creation, the strength of community, and the testimonies of individuals who, for two decades, have proudly carried the play as an enduring tribute to history and their ancestors.
“Siege of Sinj, 1715” is not just a play – it is a reminder of who we were and what we must never forget. When the lights go down and the cannons thunder beneath the Old Town once more, Sinj will not be playing history, but will be living it again.
This year’s play takes place on a Wednesday and is again performed under the patronage of the The Ministry of Croatian Veterans and Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, which reaffirms its cultural and national significance.
