Days of Alka and the Assumption 2026 – Sinj and its celebration!

Once again this summer, Sinj, the town of the Alka, is transformed into an epicenter of cultural, spiritual, and tourist experiences. The 2026 Days of Alka and Our Lady of Sinj bring a unique mosaic of tradition, festivity, and lively events, inviting you to become part of something bigger, deeper, and unforgettable.

The Alka festivities begin long before the tournament itself on August 9. Besides the Bara and Čoja on Friday and Saturday, the Alka knights spend all of July preparing intensely for their most important task – a display of chivalric courage and the preservation of tradition, an eagle’s eye and a steady right hand. These practice runs give visitors a direct look into the training of precision, skill, and discipline passed down across generations within the Alka company, keeping alive the link with a glorious past. The Alka practice runs (called “prove”), held at the Alka racetrack from mid-July onward, as well as the Bara and Čoja, are free for all visitors.

The central spiritual event, the Feast of the Assumption (August 15), gathers thousands of pilgrims who come to pay homage to the Miraculous Lady of Sinj, the town’s protector. During these days, Sinj becomes an open-air church, and devotion to Our Lady of Sinj permeates the entire town. The solemn procession and religious rites unite the faithful from across Croatia and beyond, affirming the importance of this tradition as a source of strength, community, and living faith.

This year’s cultural and entertainment program for the 2026 Days of Alka and the Assumption offers a wide range of content and unforgettable evenings for all generations, including: the S.A.R.S. Festival (July 31 and August 1, NK Junak stadium), Sinj Music Night (August 2, Alka Knights' Court), the Klapa Festival for Our Lady of Sinj (August 6, Basilica of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj), the “Ususret Majci” concert (August 11, Franjo Tuđman's Square), and the Music Evenings under Kamičak Fortress (August 22–23, Alka Knights' Court).

This summer, the Music Evenings under Kamičak Fortress promise enchanting memories beneath Sinj's pleasantly cool night sky: “Mangroove” and Bruno Mičetić bring their distinctive, original sound to the Alka Knights' Court on August 22. “Mangroove” is one of Croatia's most acclaimed groups, blending soul, jazz, funk, and contemporary pop. Bruno Mičetić is a prominent Croatian jazz and rock guitarist, who will present “GUITARS' DIALOGUE” to Sinj audiences. The Darko Rundek Quartet performs at the Alka Knights' Court on Sunday, August 23. Darko Rundek, one of the most important singer-songwriters and musicians of the region, performs in a quartet with Igor Pavlica (trumpet), Ana Kovačić (saxophone), and Miro Manojlović (percussion). The program will feature both his more recent songs and well-known pieces that have defined his career and the broader regional music scene.

Make sure not to miss this unique musical journey, filled with outstanding interpretation, improvisation, and an atmosphere that transcends time and genre.

We must also mention the free, expert-guided tours. Walk through the history of Sinj with guides who know its every stone and story – a perfect opportunity to discover its rich cultural and natural heritage (from July 16 and every following Thursday until August 20, starting at 9:00 a.m., in cooperation with the Osinium Association of Tourist Guides).

The historical play “Siege of Sinj, 1715” (August 12, King Tomislav Square / Alka Knights' Court) magnificently reenacts the epic defense of Sinj against a vastly superior Ottoman army – a journey through time that celebrates courage, community, and the pride of the town. This extraordinary production reminds viewers of the importance of preserving historical heritage and honoring those who once stood in defense of their home. The event, held at the Alka Knights' Court, will also feature the premiere of a new video by Ante Gugić, marking the play's twentieth staging. This anniversary of the play “Siege of Sinj, 1715” takes place under the patronage of the Ministry of Croatian Veterans and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia.

As of July 1, 2026, the Tourist Information Center has been open at the bl. Alojzije Stepinac Promenade, where all visitors can get complete information about events, cultural landmarks, natural beauty, and sports facilities. Tourist Information Center working hours: July 1–19: 10:00 A.M.–6:00 P.M.; July 20–August 20: 8:00 A.M.–8:00 P.M.
