Traditional Hand-Wheel Pottery in Potravlje Educational Workshop

20.10.2014.

The Town of Sinj Tourist Board will organise the Traditional Hand-Wheel Pottery in Potravlje Educational Workshop, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and the Town of Sinj.

Up to the Second World War, there were about fifty families involved in making pottery in the Cetinska Krajina Region, out of which about twenty in Potravlje. The Knezović family from Potravlje has been the only one to preserve the craft of pottery-making. The Ministry of Culture expert committee on determining cultural property designated the Traditional Hand-Wheel Pottery in Potravlje as intangible cultural property at its session held on 21st February 2013. The Traditional Hand-Wheel Pottery in Potravlje has also been nominated by the Ministry of Culture for inscription on the UNESCO list, the results of which will be known at the end of November, following the session at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

The educational workshop for children will be held on Friday 24th October at 05.00pm, and the workshop for adults on Saturday 25th October at 10.00am, at the Sikirica Gallery (Alka Knights Court, 2nd floor), both workshops guided by Ivan Knezović. In an attempt to protect this traditional craft from dying out, a brochure in Croatian and English was published, and a promotional video youtube.com/watch?v=gSVxHTm7feM was shot by Ante Gugić.
